Our History
The Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon was founded in 1912. Firmly rooted in Christian principles of charity, love and philanthropy, the organization was designed to serve as a recreational outlet for the children of the community, as well as a bulwark against the rising tide of delinquency. Any existing behavioral problems were considered the consequence of too much free time -- idle minds were the “devil’s playground.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon is a thriving, vibrant organization, with a dedicated Board of caring, influential individuals, and a professional staff. The Club serves over 1,900 kids. The City of Mount Vernon has made possible extensive capital improvements in the Club. The County of Westchester has pitched in heavily by underwriting four educational programs* through its Urban Youth Initiative. Time Warner Cable, Big V/Shoprite, Mastercard International, Texaco, Coca Cola, and other corporate heavyweights have added their considerable support to that of Foundations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America, United Way of Westchester & Putnam, MBIA Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Tupperware, Jewish Community Fund, St. Faith’s House Foundation, Cummings Fund, and the Westchester Arts Council, to ensure the health of the club in the immediate future. An ongoing partnership with the Kiwanis Club continues to be mutually beneficial, and Clinton Young, Mayor of Mount Vernon.

The list of providers, supporters and volunteers, is too long for this publication. Thanks to all of you from the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon.
